What is Sad Sack?

sadsack-splashtempSad Sack is a series of events, drawings, an exhibition, writings, thoughts and libations by Vancouver-based artist Vanessa Kwan and many collaborators. Conceived and executed during the darkest months of the West Coast winter, Sad Sack explores ideas and shared experiences around the subject of melancholy in the city.

And a more personal explanation:

From November 1st, 2012 until April 1st, 2013, I’ll be here. It’s Vancouver, and it’s winter. It rains a lot. It’s fucking depressing. Sad Sack is a slowly developing research project, involving some of the more productive things I can think of to do while it’s raining outside and my heart feels like a soggy sock: read, write, cook, draw, organize, drink and think. It will be both solitary and social, material and conversational. Meaning: I’ll make you a hanky to cry into, and a mixtape of sad songs. I’ll also make cocktails, and some drawings and sculptures. I’ll invite you out.

Sad Sack is the result of many collaborations, with organizations, people and venues. Here’s some links to some of the fine folks I’ll be working with over the next few months:
